MAOR 112 - Wanawana te Tū/Māori Language 1B

MAOR112 focuses upon further developing listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in te reo Māori. In 2010/11 students were offered the following place-based essay topics.

Kaupapa Tuhingaroa

1. Nō hea koe? Whiriwhiria ētahi tūtakiwā o tōu ake rohe, ahakoa ingoa Māori, ingoa Pākehā rānei. He aha nga purākau e puta ana i ērā tutakiwā?

Where are you from? Choose some of the placenames, Māori or Pakeha, from that region. What are some of the stories that emanate from the naming of those places?

2. Ēhara te mahere whenua i te taputapu pai ki a tātou ngā Māori. [Nā te mahere whenua ngā Māori i pēhi noa ai.] Kei te whakaae koe, kahore ranei? Whakamāramahia tōu whakautu.

Maps are not a productive tool for Māori. [Māori have been continuously oppressed by maps.] Do you agree or disagree? Explain your answer.
